The 8 Foundation

The 8 Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization founded in 1997 by 3-time NBA All-Star, Antoine Walker.  Antoine’s inspiration for starting The 8 Foundation was to pay tribute to his mother (Diane Walker) and grandmother (Dorothy Walker) who both raised him in Chicago’s inner-city Englewood community.  Given that Antoine was the oldest of six siblings he learned early on the importance of responsibility and the challenges that single mothers face.  As a result, The 8 Foundation was created to give back to inner-city communities and assist disadvantaged youth through effective programming.

Mission

To provide positive life experiences for disadvantaged youth in single parent households.

Vision

For disadvantaged youth to gain the skills and confidence needed to fully realize their potential.  Moreover, to assist in fostering stable and loving environments for young people by providing support to single parents.

Over the years, the 8 Foundation has sponsored the following programs:

  • Mayor Daley’s Neighbor Sports Programs
  • The Chicago Pro-Am National City Leagues Association
  • Chicago Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Leagues
